The original Bosch K-Jetronic system and the later KE and LE variants as fitted to many VW & Audi cars is one of the most reliable and even now efficient designs still in use. A well setup K-Jet system will give good fuel economy and performance for over 200,000 miles. During this time it does need a little TLC to keep it good.
Unlike modern fuel injection systems, the injectors are open all the time when the engine is running and the pressure to them is regulated by a mechanical metering head. The injectors cannot be cleaned ultrasonically like modern electronic injectors but they still suffer with uneven spray patterns that make the car use fuel and loose refinement and power.
We have found that beyond 75k miles, the injectors are past best performance and need replacing. Sometimes the injectors fail to close when the engine is switched off causing bad starting due to the fuel system not holding pressure.
These are just a few of the things that can cause your K-Jet car to perform at less than it's full potential. Fortunately at DG Autotech we have all the equipment and experience to diagnose and repair K-Jet systems and return them to being reliable and fuel efficient.
After a good service, we've found that most 1.8 and 2.0 litre 16v cars return to ~140+hp and are also smooth and progressive at light throttle.
